Funding for medically ill students |

What is the Nisai Virtual Academy? The Nisai Virtual Academy (NVA) is an online education provider that enables students out of school to access flexible, personalised learning programmes that are directed and supported by subject specialist teachers. Students access the Academy from all over the UK via the internet and take part in live, collaborative lessons. |
About the LSC The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) is a publically funded organisation with the aim of developing a successful education system to give young people, adults and employers the high quality education and skills they need to achieve successful outcomes. The LSC strongly believes that young people who are able to remain in education after the age of 16 are more likely to achieve their full potential, and so is passionate about enabling learning provision and giving people the skills they need for success. |
How does the funding work? Because of the unique and highly effective way in which the NVA is able to provide education to our students, many of whom may not have otherwise been able to access learning, we are able to provide places that are completely funded by the LSC. The LSC recognises that our commitment to students and the opportunities for learning that we can provide are ideally suited to helping those with medical conditions which may prevent them from accessing other means of education. We are therefore able to offer enrolment into the NVA for students who are over the age of 16 and are medically ill, funded entirely through the LSC. All administration relating to access of the funding is handled by the NVA. All that we require is documentation confirming the students condition, such as a letter from a medical professional. |
Who Qualifies for Funding? The LSC has stipulated the following guidelines for young people applying for funding: · Students should be 16 or over · Students should have been out of mainstream education for 5 weeks or more · Medical condition will be physical, mental or emotional. However please note that we must be careful to refer students whose medical condition has been verified by an appropriate medical authority and with who it has been agreed that mainstream education/training are inappropriate, and whose academic level, special educational needs and accessibility are appropriate to the NVA’s educational provision and delivery mediums. |
