The students’ were experiencing difficulties in attending mainstream school and now attend the Football Club’s state-of-the-art study centre (called the Laticzone) instead.
The scheme has been developed in partnership between Oldham Council, the football club and the Nisai Virtual Academy.
The students use the facilities at the Laticzone to access learning at the Nisai Virtual Academy, whilst staff at the centre provide additional support and mentoring.
Suzy Chapman, Study Support Manager at the centre said “The NVA provides young people with an opportunity to access learning in a flexible way. Not all young people enjoy going to school or fit in at school, however it is still extremely important that they achieve qualifications for their future and Nisai provides another way for them to be able to do this”.
The first group of students to study through the scheme have been working towards Key Skills qualifications in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT. “Our students enjoy working in this way and have been asking to study more subjects, they like the independence it provides” Suzy said.
