Stephen was a 14 year old boy who had been excluded from school following a series of fights with other students at the school. He didn’t have many friends at the school and was quite isolated.
The solution was to place him for 12 weeks on the Outreach Programme, where he studied Functional Skills Literacy and Numeracy. During those 12 weeks, he would be supported during his online lessons by a mentor and would then take part in pastoral and education support for the remainder of the day. Throughout his time, his mentor noted he became incredibly sociable; on a Wednesday afternoon the outreach students can meet and go to the gym together or play games, Stephen was often leading the groups and getting everyone involved. At the end of the 12 weeks, due his positive behaviour, Stephen’s school were happy for him to reintegrate back into mainstream.
