PLSP Mentor – Birmingham

Nisai have an exciting opportunity in Birmingham and are currently recruiting for a Mentor to work within our Personalised Learning Support Programme team to help our students reach their full potential.

At Nisai, we are much more than online learning. We provide a friendly, supportive learning community and offer our students incredible opportunities by supporting learners up to the age of 25 to create pathways to further education and employment through personalised learning. We support barriers to learning through innovative education and provide an holistic approach to positively impact social and emotional wellbeing as well as learning.

Responsibilities and Duties

You will work with students on a one to one basis in their home and locally and may have up to 3 students on your caseload. You can devise your own timetable to support each student in whichever way you feel they will benefit the most to help them achieve EHCP targets and outcomes. As a PLSP Mentor, you will motivate and inspire your students and provide support where it is needed around their studies as well as socially and emotionally. Importantly you will provide encouragement and support in helping them to build self confidence within community engagement, life skills and wellbeing.

Qualifications and Skills

You must be passionate about education and about making a positive difference to the development of our young people.  You will have at least 1-2 years relevant pastoral, education and SEND experience in working with children and young people.  You will be aware of current safeguarding practices and have good English, Maths and IT skills (at least functional skills level 2 or GCSE C or above).  You will be self-motivated, empathetic, creative, dependable and be a positive role model.

We offer this post on a one (academic) year contract (although we hope to extend on a yearly basis depending on the needs of the learner/s.) This is also a term time only position.

Candidates must also have an enhanced DBS Certificate and be able to drive and have own car.

Nisai is committed to safeguarding and promoting every student’s welfare. We expect all staff to share our commitment, values and passion in putting the student at the centre of everything we do.

We offer a great training programme which will help support you in this role and your PLSP Area Manager will also support you to initially build up your timetable and provide ongoing guidance. In this role your working hours will be from Monday to Friday, 9.30am until 3.30pm.
