Mentor Meet-Up: Building Connections and Supporting Mental Health

It was fantastic to bring all of our mentors together for a special in-person meet-up. While our teachers and student support teams are all based in the same office, our mentors work fully remotely so they can support students directly on the ground. That’s why having everyone together in one place was so valuable.

Working remotely can sometimes feel isolating. For our mentors, this is even more true as they spend much of their time out in the field, supporting students one-to-one. The role itself can also be emotionally demanding, as mentors often help students navigate challenges in their education, wellbeing, and personal lives.

The meet-up gave our mentors the chance to connect face-to-face, share experiences, and support one another. Building these relationships is so important, not just for teamwork, but for personal wellbeing too.

A key part of the day was a training session on mental health, wellbeing, and resilience, led by Anna Bateman from Halcyon Education. The session focused on practical strategies to manage stress, build resilience, and support both our mentors and the students they work with. It also created space for open conversation around the realities of the role and the importance of looking after mental health.

Bringing mentors together like this helps strengthen our team, improve support for students, and ensure everyone feels connected and supported in the work they do.

We’re already looking forward to the next meet-up!
