Nisai has been shortlisted for the Inclusive Technology of the Year award at the nasen Awards 2025!
Stephen joined Nisai Learning at the age of 13. Living with autism and a chronic lung condition that requires daily oxygen use, attending a mainstream school in person was not a viable option. He also faced severe anxiety around social interaction, making a traditional classroom environment unsuitable.
His family began searching for a solution that would allow Stephen to continue his academic journey safely and effectively from home. Nisai provided the perfect fit, a structured and flexible online schooling platform designed to support learners with complex medical or social needs.
Stephen began his learning with Nisai by focusing on one subject at a time. Taking one GCSE per year, he steadily progressed and successfully earned qualifications in English, Maths, History and Science through our virtual learning environment.
He then moved on to A Levels, achieving exceptional results:
After receiving his final grades, Stephen said:
“I have more than qualified for my university course and had my place confirmed at the University of Lincoln to study English. I am so thrilled to have my hard work over the last eight years rewarded with an outcome I have dreamed of for so long.”
Throughout his time with Nisai, Stephen was supported by a consistent and caring team of teachers, mentors and support staff. The remote education model allowed him to study from home while receiving high quality teaching and emotional support.
Stephen shared:
“I really feel that my results show what students whose circumstances, such as the health problems I suffer from, can achieve when the door is opened to a learning environment like Nisai where teachers and staff support and believe in them.”
His parents also expressed deep appreciation for Nisai’s flexible learning approach, saying it enabled Stephen to thrive in ways that mainstream education could not.
In recognition of his achievements, Stephen and his family were invited to attend a Nisai celebration event at the House of Lords, where he received a certificate of recognition. It was a proud and emotional moment for everyone involved.
Stephen has since accepted an unconditional offer to study History at the University of Lincoln, a testament to his perseverance and the power of accessible and inclusive online education.
